Makkah is the holiest city in Islam and the heart of the Muslim world. Every day, millions of Muslims turn toward it in their prayers. In this research, we learn about its location, history, holy sites, and the services provided to its visitors.‎

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم. الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام على نبينا محمد. مكة المكرمة أقدس مدينة في الإسلام وقلب العالم الإسلامي، ويتجه إليها المسلمون في صلواتهم كل يوم. وفي هذا البحث نتعرف على موقعها وتاريخها ومقدساتها والخدمات المقدمة لزوارها.

Definition | تعريف الموضوع

Makkah Al-Mukarramah, also called Mecca, is a city in the western region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in the area known as Hejaz. It is the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and the place where the revelation of the Quran began. It is also the home of the Kaaba, which Muslims face in prayer.‎

مكة المكرمة مدينة تقع في غرب المملكة العربية السعودية في منطقة الحجاز، وهي مسقط رأس النبي محمد ﷺ، وفيها بدأ نزول القرآن الكريم، وفيها الكعبة المشرفة التي يتجه إليها المسلمون في الصلاة.

Importance | أهمية الموضوع

Studying Makkah helps students understand the history of Islam and the meaning of the pilgrimage. It also shows the great efforts made by the Kingdom to serve the guests of Allah. Learning English words about Makkah also helps us explain our religion and our country to people from other nations in a good and clear way.‎

تساعد دراسة مكة الطلاب على فهم تاريخ الإسلام ومعنى الحج، وتبين الجهود الكبيرة التي تبذلها المملكة في خدمة ضيوف الرحمن، كما أن تعلم الكلمات الإنجليزية المتعلقة بمكة يعيننا على التعريف بديننا وبلدنا لغير الناطقين بالعربية بصورة حسنة واضحة.

Research Elements | عناصر البحث

أولًا: الموقع والطبيعة | Location and Nature

Makkah lies in a valley surrounded by rocky mountains, and its climate is hot and dry for most of the year. It is not far from the Red Sea coast, and it is close to the port city of Jeddah, which is the main gateway for many pilgrims arriving by air and sea. The city has grown greatly over the years, and now it has modern roads, hospitals, hotels, and public transport.‎

تقع مكة في وادٍ تحيط به الجبال الصخرية، ومناخها حار وجاف في أغلب أيام السنة، وهي قريبة من جدة التي تُعد بوابة رئيسة لكثير من الحجاج القادمين جوًا وبحرًا، وقد توسعت المدينة كثيرًا وفيها اليوم طرق حديثة ومستشفيات وفنادق ووسائل نقل عام.

ثانيًا: المكانة في الإسلام | Status in Islam

Makkah has a very special place in the hearts of Muslims. Allah the Almighty says in the Holy Quran about the first house of worship built for people:‎

لمكة مكانة عظيمة في قلوب المسلمين، وقد قال الله تعالى عن أول بيت وُضع للناس:

﴿إِنَّ أَوَّلَ بَيْتٍ وُضِعَ لِلنَّاسِ لَلَّذِي بِبَكَّةَ مُبَارَكًا وَهُدًى لِلْعَالَمِينَ (٩٦) فِيهِ آيَاتٌ بَيِّنَاتٌ مَقَامُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ۖ وَمَنْ دَخَلَهُ كَانَ آمِنًا ۗ وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا ۚ وَمَنْ كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ (٩٧)﴾ [ال عمران: 96–97]

This verse shows that the Kaaba is a blessed place and a source of guidance. Muslims all over the world pray toward it five times a day, no matter where they live.‎

وتبين هذه الآيات أن الكعبة مكان مبارك ومصدر هداية، ويصلي المسلمون في العالم كله نحوها خمس مرات في اليوم أينما كانوا.

ثالثًا: المسجد الحرام والكعبة وزمزم | The Grand Mosque, the Kaaba, and Zamzam

The Grand Mosque, known as Masjid Al-Haram, is the largest mosque in the world. In its center stands the Kaaba, a cubic building covered with a black cloth called the Kiswah. Next to it is the Black Stone, and the Station of Ibrahim. Pilgrims walk around the Kaaba in a ritual called Tawaf. Near the Kaaba is also the well of Zamzam, whose blessed water flows until today, and millions of people drink from it every year.‎

المسجد الحرام أكبر مساجد العالم، وفي وسطه الكعبة وهي بناء مكعب مكسو بالكسوة السوداء، وبجانبها الحجر الأسود ومقام إبراهيم، ويطوف الحجاج حولها في عبادة تسمى الطواف. وقريبًا منها بئر زمزم التي لا يزال ماؤها المبارك يجري إلى اليوم، ويشرب منه الملايين كل عام.

The sacred sites also include the hills of Safa and Marwa, between which pilgrims walk in a ritual called Sa'i, remembering the effort of Hajar, the mother of Prophet Ismail, peace be upon them, when she looked for water for her son.‎

ومن المشاعر أيضًا جبلا الصفا والمروة، يسعى الحجاج بينهما في عبادة السعي، تذكيرًا بسعي هاجر أم إسماعيل عليهما السلام حين بحثت عن الماء لولدها.

رابعًا: الحج والعمرة | Hajj and Umrah

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. It is a duty on every Muslim who is able to perform it once in a lifetime. It takes place in the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar, and its rituals are performed in Makkah and the nearby holy places: Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah. The day of Arafat is the most important day of Hajj. Umrah is a shorter visit that can be performed at any time of the year, and it includes Ihram, Tawaf, Sa'i, and shortening or shaving the hair.‎

الحج هو الركن الخامس من أركان الإسلام، وهو واجب على كل مسلم قادر مرة في العمر، ويكون في الشهر الثاني عشر من التقويم الهجري، وتؤدى مناسكه في مكة والمشاعر المقدسة القريبة منها: منى وعرفة ومزدلفة. ويوم عرفة هو أهم أيام الحج. أما العمرة فهي زيارة أقصر يمكن أداؤها في أي وقت من السنة، وفيها الإحرام والطواف والسعي والحلق أو التقصير.

خامسًا: خدمة الحرمين | Serving the Two Holy Mosques

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is proud to serve the Two Holy Mosques, and the King holds the title of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. The Kingdom has carried out large expansion projects at the Grand Mosque and the holy places, and it provides health care, security, transportation, and guidance in many languages. Thousands of workers and volunteers work every season to help pilgrims perform their rituals in comfort and safety. The Haramain high-speed railway also connects Makkah, Jeddah, and Madinah.‎

تفخر المملكة العربية السعودية بخدمة الحرمين الشريفين، ويحمل ملكها لقب خادم الحرمين الشريفين. وقد نفذت مشاريع توسعة كبيرة في المسجد الحرام والمشاعر المقدسة، وتوفر الرعاية الصحية والأمن والنقل والإرشاد بلغات متعددة، ويعمل آلاف العاملين والمتطوعين في كل موسم لمساعدة الحجاج على أداء مناسكهم بيسر وأمان. كما يربط قطار الحرمين السريع بين مكة وجدة والمدينة المنورة.

سادسًا: آداب زائر مكة | Manners of the Visitor

A visitor to Makkah should be sincere, patient, and kind to others. He should follow the instructions of the officials, keep the place clean, avoid pushing people in crowded places, and help the elderly and the weak. Respecting the sanctity of the place is a duty for everyone.‎

ينبغي لزائر مكة أن يكون مخلصًا صبورًا رفيقًا بالناس، وأن يتبع تعليمات الجهات المنظمة، ويحافظ على النظافة، ولا يزاحم في الأماكن المزدحمة، ويساعد كبار السن والضعفاء، فاحترام حرمة المكان واجب على الجميع.

وفي الختام، فمكة مدينة فريدة لها منزلة خاصة في قلوب المسلمين، وفيها الكعبة وتؤدى فيها مناسك الحج والعمرة. وعلينا أن نفخر بخدمة بلادنا للحرمين الشريفين، وأن نقدم جمال الإسلام للعالم بأخلاق حسنة ولغة واضحة. نسأل الله أن يتقبل عبادة كل حاج وأن يرزقنا زيارة بيته الحرام.
